Tea Time

Are you a coffee drinker or a tea drinker? I am personally a tea gal, myself. 

Tea time happens in this house pretty much all morning. Between chasing around a toddler and trying to get basic things done, my tea gets re-heated about five times. By about noon, once Sloane is down, I finish my tea. It certainly isn’t the most ideal way to polish off a tea, but hey, at least it gets consumed at some point.

Before Sloane, tea time was a significant ritual for me. I loved going to a local coffee shop and picking up a delicious tea latte. There’s something about that paper cup that makes me happy. 

The downfall of the paper cup is how non-economical and non-environmentally friendly it is. I always tried to up my tea time at-home game but missed the strange comfort I got from the paper cup. 

I know some of you are feeling what I’m saying, mainly when Starbucks releases their holiday cups. There’s no way you don’t love those paper mugs. 

Anyways, since COVID, I’m too creeped out by germs to drink from a paper mug, so I made some adjustments to my at-home-tea game and think I have it dialed.   

By the way, these items also apply to those who drink coffee too. I had to stop drinking coffee after becoming far too addicted to it… This is certainly what working in a coffee shop for four years in high school will do to you! Needless to say, I just drink tea now.

The Perfect Tea Time Mug

The first thing for my ideal cup of tea is that a tea time mug needs to be over-sized. There’s nothing more comforting than having a massive mug of warm goodness in front of you.

Also, I feel that the normal-sized mugs don’t hold enough for me. This is literally the one “American”-sized item I choose. I am all about the European portion sizes for meals, but if we’re talking tea, let’s go big gulp large. Anything smaller and we may as well be talking about a teeny espresso cup.

I know I’m not alone on this one. I’ve bought plenty of these insanely sweet mugs for friends who claim these are their favorites simply due to the amount of volume that they hold. The fact that they are cute is obviously a huge bonus, but size does matter in this case for me.

Perfectly Frothed Milk

Arguably a more valuable item than a large mug is a milk frother. There isn’t enough I can say about frothed milk. It is what makes my tea great, especially when you can get a gentle tight foam. Talking about comfort vibes above, the foam is truly is where they come from.

Seriously, if you’re not frothing your milk, you may as well cancel tea time altogether. 

We do have a Nespresso milk frother, but what I appreciate about these handheld ones is their efficiency and the ease of cleaning it. Besides, they are incredibly portable to bring on a trip with you. I packed mine into the collapsable snack carrier (100% not what it’s called) that I mentioned in my packing for a trip post. 

If you’re new to milk frothing, let’s talk. I need to make sure you get that perfect foam.

The Kettle That Also Serves as Decor

The third item is more for the aesthetic of your home. I’m not sure why, but I resisted getting a kettle for the stovetop for years and years. After boiling water for Sloane’s formula in a pot (as it needs to boil for at least 2 minutes), I finally decided a stovetop kettle would be easier and more efficient. 

First of all, because I know you’re wondering, yes, it was both easier and more efficient.

And second of all, I didn’t realize that I was missing out on a beautiful addition of stovetop decor until after I bought it. 

Now I’ve saved my counter space (from the plug into the wall kettle) and decorated my stovetop with something that makes sense. 

I never thought I would like it, but now that I have it, I can’t imagine going back.
